NOTE: This section does not apply or appear for Rapid Access mail-in requests (limited to 1 shift per proposal).
Source(s) of funding: This is used by the APS for reporting statistics, please try to provide accurate information.
Scientific purpose: In a few sentences, explain the scientific motivation behind the study; why should the DOE and APS contribute resources to your project?
Why do you need the APS: Explain why this study cannot be done with a lab-based instrument. Usually this is pretty simple: you need the resolution, the enhanced signal-to-noise, a shorter wavelength, etc.
Why this beamline (11-BM): This is also straight-forward, although if your study requires many measurements, medium resolution work at beamline 17-BM should also be considered, possibly as a precursor to doing more detailed work at 11-BM.
Describe the experiment: Describe specific samples and temperatures etc required for the experiment. Note that support for sample environment facilities may be limited; it is a good idea to discuss your requirements with beamline staff ([email protected]) in advance.
Estimate required beam time: This information is needed for reviewed proposals to decide if the requested amount of time is reasonable. This section can be quite short.
